Helen Fawcett

Helen has a wealth of experience in strategic and operational planning from multiple sectors and has managed the planning process at Durham University for 6 years. Her early career was spent working in criminal intelligence and learning the importance of evidence-based decision-making. She is an experienced data analyst, programme manager and change manager with expertise in facilitation, process improvement techniques and quality management. Her interests include the dynamics of decision-making, stakeholder engagement and corporate entrepreneurship. Helen holds an MA in Management from Durham University and BEng in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Utilising a data focussed evidence-based strategy to inform planning and decision making across the university and improve student outcomes
  • Developing bespoke key performance indicator reports and performance profiles for individual departments and faculties to shape strategic planning in teaching, student experience and course provision
  • Assessing how data forecasting and impact assessments are used to inform planning on student numbers and programme delivery
  • Developing a data led approach to risk management, using data modelling to predict and analyse risk in order to inform the university’s strategic direction
  • Evaluating the outcomes of the data strategy in enhancing course provision, supporting student recruitment and enhancing teaching and learning outcomes across the university
