Chris Newson

Chairman & CEO,
Enlightened, The Student Room Group

Enlitened is The Student Room’s new continuous improvement platform for student engagement and wellbeing. With three core roles, Enlitened gives proactive support on students’ phone, amplifies the students and universities voice, and provides real-time time engagement and wellbeing insights. Chris acquired The Student Room (TSR) in 2006, and has since driven the company’s growth, both organically and by acquisition, such that TSR is now the UK’s largest student community with 10 million users per month. The Student Room works with almost all UK universities and related government and education sector organisations. As well as launching Enlitened, in 2019, TSR also acquired a higher education research consultancy to provide even more depth to its insights on UK students. Chris is passionate about student engagement & wellbeing, growing companies and working with inspiring, talented people. Chris enjoys advising education technology start-ups, as well as his work as a governor of BHASVIC sixth form college in Brighton, where he lives with his wife, two teenage children, two cats and a rather lovely, cross-eyed pug.”
